ACI Africa Safety Awards

ACI Africa Airport Safety Award is a testimony of the commitment to the continuous improvement of safety on the African continent as well as a recognition of the best African airports in terms of airport safety, which is considered as main pillar of the air transport industry.

The ACI Africa Airport Safety Awards include:

1 – Best Airport in Safety in Africa

This award comprises three categories of airports according to the number of aircraft movements handled per year. This classification ensures that all airports, from large to small, have the same opportunity to participate:

  • More than 20,000 mvts / year
  • Between 10,000 and 20,000 mvts / year
  • Less than 10,000 mvts / year

This award is opened to all member airports of the region. An assessment of all parameters relating to aviation safety and aerodrome infrastructure is carried out.

2 – Excellence in Safety

This award is limited to African airports that have conducted an APEX review or member airports that have recently achieved certification. This award includes two categories of airports based on the number of aircraft movements handled per year.

  • More than 20,000 mvts / year
  • Less than 20,000 mvts / year

The winners of these awards are announced at the Annual General Assembly and Conference & Exhibition held every year in October.

This award also serves as a platform to improve the safety culture at the African airports and to provide a unique opportunity to recognize the efforts of airport safety managers who so often go unnoticed. It is also a chance for the airport senior management to focus on the implementation of the Safety Management System and to encourage and motivate the staff.
