Domestic Flights Resume at Mauritius Airport
Following an assessment of the Covid-19 situation in the Republic of Mauritius, the Authorities have decided to allow the resumption of domestic flights to the sister island of Rodrigues, located some 600 km from Mauritius. The national airline, Air Mauritius is thus operating a daily flight using ATR72-500 type aircraft since 01 July 2020.
Following the restart of air service between the two islands a few days back, the demand for additional seats has soared considerably, prompting Air Mauritius to consider scheduling additional flights in the coming days.
Presently, only a few imported cases of Covid19 patients (repatriated nationals) have been detected and are being treated in Mauritius. For its part, Rodrigues did not record any positive cases as at now.
The resumption of domestic flights between Mauritius and Rodrigues has been most welcomed, as it marks a return to a certain degree of normality in the movement of people and goods between the two islands.
